Election Guideline

Guidelines/Eligibility Criteria for Nomination and Election/Re-Election into the Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN).

A member seeking election into the Governing Council must satisfy the following conditions: Financial Standing

Financial Standing

• Must have paid all annual membership subscriptions and any other dues/levies prescribed by the Institute on or before 30th of April of the election year.

• Must have consistently paid annual subscriptions as and when due for the five (5) years preceding the election year.

• Must have paid the Building Fund Levy for the year 2026. Professional Status

Professional Status

• Must be a Fellow of the Institute and must have held this status for a minimum of three (3) years prior to the election year. Participation and Engagement

Participation and Engagement

•Must have demonstrated active participation in Institute activities, evidenced by records.

•Must have attended at least one (1) Institute event per year in the three (3) years preceding the election year.

• Must have attended at least two (2) Annual Conferences and two (2) Annual General Meetings (AGMs) within the last four (4) years. Chapter Membership

Chapter Membership

•Must be an active member of a Chapter of the Institute.

•Must have participated regularly in Chapter activities.

•Must obtain a formal endorsement from the Chapter.

•Must be up to date in payment of Chapter subscriptions for the three (3) years preceding the election year.

Disciplinary and Employment Status

• Must not have any pending or unresolved disciplinary matters at either the National or Chapter level.

• Must not be in the employment of the Institute and must not have been employed by the Institute within the seven (7) years preceding the election year.

Tenure and Re-election

• Council members may serve a maximum of four (4) consecutive terms of three (3) years each.

• Upon completion of the maximum tenure, such members shall not be eligible for immediate re-election and must observe a cooling off period of one (1) term (three years) before seeking re-election. General Integrity Requirements

General Integrity Requirements

• Must be of sound mind.

• Must not have any criminal conviction.

• Must not have been declared bankrupt.

Legal Basis

• Must be a responsible and reputable member of society. Legal Basis These guidelines are issued pursuant to the powers of the Council as provided under Schedule 1(3), Section 2 “Powers of Council.”
