PROFILE OF TONY OKONMAH, FCIS
My name is Tony Okonmah. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (BSc), Bachelor of law (LL.B) and Master of laws (LL.M) all of the University of Lagos as well as (B.L) Nigeria Law School, Bwari, Abuja. I am a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators London and Nigeria (FCIS), Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators London and Nigeria (ACI.ARB), Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI), Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Member of the Nigeria and International Bar Associations (NBA & IBA), Member, Negotiation and Conflict Management Group (NCMG) and the Lagos Multi-Door Court House.
I am also a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and certified in Corporate Governance by the International Finance Corporation (IFC)
I had a successful banking career that spanned over 2 decades with Union Bank of Nigeria Plc covering both Commercial and Retail Banking. I resigned in 2010 into private legal practice up till 2015
I am currently the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser of AG Mortgage bank Plc. I am passionate about Corporate Governance and with strong Corporate Governance background having been a private sector person for more than 2 decades, I have contributed in addressing the Corporate Governance challenges of the Institute as Chairman, Governance and Nominations Committee as well as that of my organisation as Corporate Secretary.
In service of ICSAN at the National level, I am a Fellow of the Institute (FCIS), member of governing Council and currently serving as Chairman, Nominations and Governance Committee. I am also a Member, Finance & General Purpose Committee.
I have also previously served in the following Council Committees;
- Roundtable on corporate governance
- Membership and Branch liaison
- Law Reform
- Remuneration and
- Monitoring and Implementation
I have facilitated MCPEs and other workshops organised by the Institute.
At State Chapter level, I had a humble and progressive career having served in the following capacities;
- Twice as Assistant Hon. Secretary
- Ex-officio member
- Chairman, Conference Planning Committee
- Vice Chairman
I am result driven, relate well with people and have the flexibility of working well as part of a winning team. I have a proven track record of insistence on high standards as I believe that even the best can be improved.
As a Council member, I am one of those that actively canvassed the need for visibility, unification and training of young Chartered Secretaries as ways of building a strong national Institute.
